Superbike Reflector Removal Directions
Removing the extra reflectors is an easy modification you can make to streamline the rear end of your Ducati Superbike.
The reflector is mounted to the brake light bulb access cover. The reflector itself can be easily unbolted from the cover, but the cover still has an integral bracket which we'll be removing to complete the mod.
These images show the rear end of the bike in stock configuration.
Step 1: Lift up the seat and use a philips screwdriver to remove the brake light bulb access cover. The cover is shown below.
Step 2: Remove the two nuts which hold the reflector to the cover. The disassembled parts are shown below.
Step 3: Cut the bracket off flush with the rear edge of the cover. Though you can use a hacksaw for this, we chose to use a bandsaw.
We raised the guard on the bandsaw to take this photo, but you should always cut with the guard in place.
Step 4: There will be some burrs and a small portion of the bracket left over after sawing off the bracket. This needs to be "cleaned up" before you can put the cover back on the bike. We used a wood chisel to do this, but that takes a very sharp chisel and a steady hand. A simpler (but more time-consuming) method would be to use a file or fine sandpaper to smooth the cut edge. The image below shows the cover once the bracket has been completly removed.
Step 5: Replace the brake light cover in the original location.
You can see the rear end of the bike after the mod has been completed.
